Katherine is an expert tax barrister, in practice at her own chambers, St Katharine’s, with a particular focus on private clients and their businesses.
As the past editor of the definitive practitioners’ text on land taxation, she is regularly asked to advise on property transactions.
She has an MA in Law from Cambridge University and is a Chartered Tax Adviser, member of STEP, a Chartered Financial Planner and Certified Family Business Adviser.
Recognised as one of the ‘Most Influential Private Client Advisers’ in the UK in 2013, 2014 and 2018 and “50 Top Tax Advisers” in 2018, she has over 25 years’ experience in supporting accountants, solicitors and tax advisers to solve complex tax problems.
Prior to practice, Katherine was a senior tax partner with two Big 4 professional services firms, first as the UK head of private client services at PwC and then as head of private client services for EMEIA at EY.

Sofia Thomas is Chair of the International Sports Tax Association and Partner at Juno. She regularly advises elite athletes on tax matters in contract negotiations and international transfers.
Sofia sits on the HMRC Wealthy External Forum and the HMRC Crypto Asset Working Group.
Her latest book ‘Tax and the Elite Athlete’ is due to be published by Bloomsbury in the summer of 2024.
John is a director of Wooltech Ltd, having previously been a director of Technical Connection Ltd for 25 years.
John has several legal and tax qualifications including being a qualified TEP, a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He has been involved in financial planning in the financial services sector for the last 30 years.
He regularly contributes articles on tax planning to various journals as well as making guest attendances as a speaker at financial services and tax conferences.
He is the author of Financial Planning with Trusts published by Claritax.
Emma Chamberlain specialises in tax and trust advice for private clients, trusts and charities. Her practice is focused particularly on IHT and CGT as well as advising foreign domiciliaries and trustees. She frequently advises on taxation issues in connection with divorce and family issues, on BPR and APR and on residence, remittance and domicile enquiries.
Emma regularly writes for Tax Journal, Private Client Business, Tax Adviser and British Tax Review. Articles include an analysis of the reservation of benefit provisions in Tax Journal, IHT reform, and an analysis of the Finance Bill 2020 provisions.
In 2020 she was one of the three co-authors of the final report produced by the Wealth Tax Commission on whether an annual or one-off wealth tax was feasible for the UK.
David Bowes joined Bruce Sutherland in 2009, having been Head of Valuations at a top fifteen Accountancy firm and, before that, a major Tax Consultancy.
He was previously a senior member of Shares Valuation Division, (now Shares and Assets Valuation) of HM Revenue and Customs.
David is an experienced lecturer on valuation and writes articles on the subject for the professional press. He has appeared as an expert witness in Court and the Tax Tribunal. He is a former Honorary Secretary of the Society of Share & Business Valuers, and the author of Tolley’s Practical Share and Business Valuation
